About Time opening Saturday 24 September 2022 at the Gallery at Grande Provence
The Gallery at Grande Provence is proud to present a group exhibition featuring Roxandra Dardagan Britz, Mona Craven, Estelle Marais, Sharlé Matthews, Diane McLean, Carl Roberts & André Roodt
Six of the artists studied fine art together at Rhodes University. Professor Marais was their first-year teacher. 1981, their year of enrolment, was an “interesting” time. Art was evolving from a formal orientation towards a socially relevant view and the political climate was fraught with the tensions of a civil war. 40 years have passed, each artist has explored and advanced their unique and different approach. Now, they are established and have works in collections throughout South Africa and across the world.
Recently, these artists wondered what homogeneity remains and what diversity has developed from their common origin. To explore this, the artists decided that it was time to exhibit together once again.

‘Chronicles of the Soul’ a solo exhibition by Hannah Yason
‘Chronicles of the Soul’ a solo exhibition by Hannah Yason opening Saturday 26 February 2022 at the Gallery at Grande Provence.
This solo exhibition celebrates art transcending cultures and the equalization of all humans by the soul. Yason’s paintings narrate emotionally charged stories of selected poignant experiences from her life. Working with an original technique that combines oil paint and sand on canvas, her ‘sculpturesque’ paintings portray a vision of awareness and spirituality.
Hannah gained a BA Honours degree in Fine Art from The University of Reading, UK (2002) and has since taken part in group shows in both the UK and South Africa. She has work in private collections in South Africa, France, Germany and the UK.

‘True Colours’ a solo exhibition by ceramic artist Margot Rudolph
‘True Colours’ opening Saturday 26 February 2022 at the Gallery at Grande Provence.
The African landscape has an extraordinary wealth of colours, textures and forms. Margot Rudolph has drawn inspiration from such wealth in her vibrant vases and has focused her attention on capturing the beautiful colours that Africa inspires. Each of Margot’s pieces is individually handmade, using the traditional coiling technique in stoneware, combined with dynamic glazes.
Rudolph obtained her National diploma in ceramic design from the Tshwane University of Technology in 1986 and since had one of her pieces selected as part of the Corobrik collection in the Pretoria Art Museum, and another as part of the Pretoria University Art Museum collection. She has won numerous awards for pieces displayed at provincial and national ceramic exhibitions.
